This week is proficiency week! We will follow the same routine... Students will review for the extended response on Tuesday. Wednesday, they will review for the multiple choice. Thursday will be the big test! Please make sure that they study both Tuesday and Wednesday night in an environment free of distractions.

This week, students are going to explore chemical reactions. They are going to make models to better understand that the atoms in the reactants are the same as the atoms in the products, they are just rearranged.
Tuesday, students will take a quiz on their notebook. They do not need to study for this as it is open notebook. Thursday, the students will have a quiz on chemical reactions. They do need to study for this and will have a study guide on Wednesday night. Homework:
Students will first compare mixtures and solutions, and discuss ways to separate both. Towards the end of the week, students will begin looking more closely at compounds and diagramming models of them.
Homework:
Students will be studying the difference between physical and chemical changes. This always is one of their favorite labs! They will be ready for a quiz on the content on Friday, with a study guide going home on Thursday.

Students will finish exploring phase changes, focusing on condensation and evaporation. The song below does an excellent job reviewing phase changes! Students will have a quiz on Friday. They will be completing a study guide on Wednesday and a phase change poster on Thursday. Both can be used for studying! Homework:
To begin the week, I will be reteaching topics from the first five investigations that students have not mastered. This includes reviewing the types of properties and discussing thermal energy.
Students will then begin exploring the various phase changes. This week, students will be focusing on melting and freezing. Students will complete hands on investigations to help them better understand and connect to the material. Homework
Students will study expansion and contraction in relation to thermal energy and heat transfer. They also will attempt an engineering challenge in which they create an insulated cup that keeps their water hot. Students will have a quiz on Thursday, with a study guide on Wednesday.
Homework:
This week, students will be focuing on the three states of matter and the difference in particle movement in each. They will have a quiz on Thursday, with a study guide to bring home on Wednesday!
Homework
There is no school on Monday!
Students will begin the week looking for elements in the food we eating by focusing on the food labels. Students will also explore how to write chemical formulas and what the numbers mean, such as the example below. Lastly, students will explore the difference between manmade/synthetic resources versus natural resources. We will discuss the impact of human use on natural resources. Homework:
