There is a quiz the day students return back! We discussed what to study prior to leaving for the long weekend. This week, students will be looking at the different types of mountains and exploring the metamorphic rocks that might have formed there.

Thank you to all the parents who donated Milky Ways! It is a great lab but with a limited budget, I wouldn't be able to do it without your help!
This week the students will finish their study of the three types of plate boundaries and what phenomenon occur at each. They will have a quiz on Monday, January 15! We will discuss on Friday what to use as a "study guide" for the quiz. Homework
This week, the students are exploring convection within the earth and how this affects the movement of tectonic plates. As they explore tectonic plates, they will look at convergent, divergent, and transform boundaries. A huge thank you to all the parents who donated Milky Ways for Friday's lab - I appreciate it!
There is no homework this week since we didn't have school on Monday and Tuesday:) Students will be exploring igneous rocks, how they form, and the difference between intrusive or extrusive igneous rocks. The students will begin exploring where earthquakes and volcanoes occur to get them prepared for studying plate tectonics and plate movement.
December 15, I will be sending home a sheet asking for donations of bags of Fun Size Milky Ways (not minis - they are too tiny to break apart) for an upcoming lab about plate movement. Any student who brings in a bag will get a free homework pass. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday break! Homework for the week of December 11
Homework for the week of December 18
Monday, students will be completing the study guide for Tuesday's quiz on weathering and erosion! Wednesday and Thursday, students will be exploring the concept of relative dating to find the age of rock layers. Friday, the students will be exploring fossils.
Homework:
Students will be completing a variety of labs and hands on experiences to explore weathering, erosion, and deposition. We will place emphasis on where these processes occur around us, in real life. These labs will ultimately help them to understand the formation of sedimentary rocks.

Homework - Week of November 27
Monday and Tuesday, the students will be watching Hidden Figures. It is a powerful movie to end our astronomy unit with! Monday night, they will have to write a 1 paragraph reflection about the main characters. Tuesday, they will get both their Astronomy test and their District Common Assessments back. They will be sharing those with you Tuesday night to get signed.
Wednesday, we start our Geosciences unit! The students will first be exploring the various landforms found in the United States. Homework:
This is a very important week in science!
Monday, the students will be working on a study guide and playing a review game to prepare for Tuesday's astronomy test. They will be asking you to sign a sheet Monday night confirming that they study the one page study guide for at least 30 minutes. Wednesday, they will be creating a study guide and competing against peer tables to prepare for Thursday's District Common Assessment. The results of this are not only input as a grade, but also shared with Ms. Reed and district folks. Again, they will be asking you to sign a sheet confirming that they have studied. Please allow them to explain to you the reason for the seasons! I know 2 assessments in one week is not ideal. However, I do not want to move on to Geosciences until we have wrapped up astronomy! Homework Monday: Study, signed sheet Tuesday: None Wednesday: Study, signed sheet Thursday: None Friday: None |
