This week we are practicing using proportions to solve problems involving percents. This is a difficult concept for kids to master so we will focus on it the entire week. The grading period officially ends Friday! I will have grades posted on Infinite Campus before I leave the building on Friday. Actual report cards are not distributed until October 3.

This week, students will be working on making the connection between real life problems, proportions, graphs, and tables. Also, don't forget 30 minutes of Moby Max Math is due on Friday! I sent home a sheet detailing the instructions and put it below as well:) Homework
I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend! Now that students have learned how to solve proportion problems, they need to practice applying the skill to a variety of situations! Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will be filled with task cards, domino trains, and games to practice, practice, practice!
Friday, I have scheduled the computer lab. I want to first make sure that each student is able to access their grades via Student Portal. They will have their username/password written in the front page of their agenda if you want to use it as well. Monitoring student/parent portal is the best way to be proactive in their academics! The remainder of the computer lab time will serve as a training session on Moby Max. Students have already taken the Moby Max Math Placement test to assess any standards they have not achieved from elementary school. Based on their results, Moby Max assigns them activities to fill in the gap. They will be required to do 30 minutes of Moby Max homework every week at home (which we will be practicing in the lab on Friday). A detailed sheet with sign in instructions and homework guidelines will be sent home Monday, September 11. Their username and password are the same as for Student Portal and can be found in the front of their agenda. Homework
This week we will continue practicing proportions, focusing mostly on unit rate. Much of our practice will involve real life applications.
Friday, the students will be in the computer lab taking the Moby Max placement test. Moby Max is an online program that assesses students' math skills and assigns lessons based on their weaknesses. I will be analyzing the results over the next week and determining a plan of action for Moby Max homework. A detailed worksheet with directions and expectations will be sent home in the next few weeks! Homework
This week, students will work on writing ratios and will begin solving proportions. Anytime your student is having difficulty on homework, please advise them to look at the examples in their interactive notebook!
By the way, the workbook reference below is a small red workbook called "Homework and Practice Workbook" which students write directly in. I've attached a photo of the cover to help you find it:) Homework
