This week is all about preparing for the proficiency on Monday, October 24! Proficiencies are designed by the district and incorporate multiple choice questions, short answer questions, and extended response questions. Students will spend time this week in the computer lab visiting stations assigned to them based on which questions they missed on the diagnostic.
I've included a diagram about finding area below as it does show up on the proficiency! We will use area to review multiplying fractions in class. Homework

Monday, the students will have a quiz on integers (positives, negatives, ordering them, absolute value, opposites, coordinate graphs). They will have a study guide over the weekend to review!
Following the quiz, students will review order of operations. This skill should have been mastered in elementary school but some students still seem unsure of how to apply PEMDAS. Students will also take their first district designed diagnostic. The diagnostic does not count for an accuracy grade but rather shows both the students and me what skills each person has not mastered. Then, I can reteach accordingly next week before the proficiency. I've included a pictorial reminder of the order of operations for students to use as a homework resource! Homework
I hope everyone enjoyed their extra time off! After long weekends, it is always helpful to review the Interactive Student Notebook the night before returning to school as a reminder of what students were studying. Students will be finishing their study of integers this week! They will be focusing on absolute value and comparing integer values. They will have a quiz on Monday!
Homework: Wednesday: worksheet Thursday: page 394 (11-38) Friday: Study the study guide for quiz The students are going to explore the coordinate grid, graphing, and quadrants this week. Mastering this skill will help them when graphing in science class as well!

For some reason, some students' usernames and passwords got deleted from the online book database (my.hrw.com). As a back up, you may always use the following... User: sstudent6744 Password: s3u2j This week, the students will be finishing their study of operations with decimals. The quiz will be on Wednesday!
After the quiz, the students will begin studying integers and how they are used in real life. The image below gives some example! Homework:
