This week, students are working at representing a real life problem in multiple ways. They will create tables, equations, and graphs of the problems. Students will do a variety of hands on activities to practice this skill and see its usefulness in real life!
Please remind your child to study for the quiz. Encourage them to teach you how to do the skills - the highest form of understanding is being able to teach someone else to do it! Also, make sure their study time is free of distractions from cell phones, tv, etc. Homework

I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend! The goal this week is that all students become masters at using proportions to solve real life problems. In order to do this, students need to practice....practice....and practice some more. All three days will be spent practicing this concept in a variety of ways! A mistake students keep making is that they don't show their units, and then they mix up their ratios. Please remind your child to show units on homework! Homework
Monday, the students will get their first proficiency back! They will spend the period analyzing their results and setting goals for the year. This process helps them to develop test taking strategies which will benefit them in all classes.
The rest of the week, students will continue to practice solving proportions, focusing on real life problems. We will also incorporate unit rates. Unit rates are always per 1 item, as shown in the image below. Homework:
In 2 weeks, we are doing a math activity with fruit loops! In a nutshell, the students will find and calculate various ratios for the colors of froot loops in a box. Donations of fruit loops are greatly appreciated! Off brand is fine!
Monday is the first big proficiency! It consists of multiple choice questions, short answers, and an extended response. Students have a stapled study guide to review. It is essential that they review this packet! Students will not get this test back for a week (I have to grade it, submit it to admin, and scan it).
Tuesday, we begin cycle 2 of math which all revolves around ratios and proportions. Students will first explore what a ratio is and how to solve proportions using cross multiplication. I have included an example below, and they have examples in their interactive student notebook. Homework
